How to use data cleanup in Supermetrics Custom Data Import

Sometimes, your import might contain values that our Custom data feature can't parse in the way you want. For example, when a value 86.7% is present in the data, the % symbol won't be recognized as a numeric value.

We advise using the Data Cleanup feature in Custom Data Import to sanitize the values and remove the unwanted characters from the data. You can apply Data Cleanup to the value and use the Find and Replace function to remove the % symbol, and the value can be treated as a number.

Instructions

  1. Follow steps 1 and 2 in our Custom Data Import configuration instructions to upload your file and define the data to include.
  2. When configuring the fields in step 3, some data, such as click-through rate with a % symbol, will show an error when you choose decimal number as the data type. To remove the error, use the data cleanup option.
  3. Click the + symbol in the Data Cleanup column.
  4. For this example, you can enter the % symbol in the Find field to find the % symbol in the data column. To remove the symbol, leave the Replace with text field blank.
If you have multiple non-numerical characters to remove, you can use brackets to enclose the characters in the Find field. For example, [.%], to remove a decimal point and a percentage sign. For other use cases, you can use a regular expression to find a pattern in your data that you want to remove.
  5. Click Save to replace the symbol or phrase.
  6. Continue the remaining steps of the Custom Data Import configuration to define date filtering and set up future data imports.
