How to upload data to Custom Data Import

Once you have configured an import in Custom Data Import, you can start uploading more data into it. Data can be uploaded in two ways:

  • Send new data by email
  • Upload data manually using the Upload page on the Supermetrics Hub

To take full advantage of Custom Data Import feature, you can schedule data to be sent directly to the email address specific to your import.

Note

When uploading additional data to your import, the structure of the data must match the structure used during configuration. Changes in data structure can lead to processing failures or broken datasets with wrong values.

Instructions

Send data by email

You can send data as files to the email address specific for your import. Please note that each data import uses a different email address.

  1. Find the email address of your import:
    1. Go to the Supermetrics Hub, and navigate to Data sourcesCustom Data Import.
    2. Select the data import for which you want to check the email address.
    3. Click the 3-dot menu and click Copy email address for sending files. The email address is copied on your clipboard.
  2. Send file:
    1. Send an email to the given address and include the file you want to upload as an attachment.

Good to know:

  • The file must be sent as an attachment of the email message
  • Email subject or sender of the email does not matter
  • If the email contains multiple attachments, we try downloading all of them. If you want to specify the file that will be downloaded, you can define filtering based on file name when creating import configuration
  • To have a fully automated workflow, you can schedule the data source/sender to send the report directly to the email address of your import instead of sending it first to your own email.

Upload a file on the Supermetrics Hub

You can upload files to existing imports on the Hub.

  1. Go to the Supermetrics Hub, and navigate to Data sourcesCustom Data Import.
  2. Find the import you'd like to upload a new file for, and click the 3-dot menu.
  3. Click Upload files.
  4. Select a file to upload.

Now that you've set up the data upload, learn how to query data using the Custom Data Import connector.
