Snapchat Marketing: Query setup guide

Once you’ve authenticated your connection to Snapchat Marketing, you’re ready to create your first query. This guide will walk you through Snapchat Marketing query setup for Google Sheets, Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio), and Excel, as well as data warehouse destinations like Google Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and the Supermetrics API.

Before you begin

To connect Supermetrics to Snapchat Marketing, you need to have:

  • A valid Snapchat user account with at least Account Admin or Campaign Manager access to an ad account. See roles and permissions

Here’s an example of sufficient user permissions:

  • Field label is the name that appears in the sidebar.
  • Metrics can be found under type - “met”.
  • Dimensions can be found under type - “dim” .

Basics

The Snapchat Marketing data source allows you to:

  • Fetch all the main metrics and conversion data for your advertising campaigns.
  • Split the data by campaign, ad group, ad, or by time.
  • Inspect results by targeting demographics, such as user interests, location, language, age, gender, and device.
  • Combine Snapchat and ecommerce marketing data to calculate the ROI of each campaign.
  • Combine Snapchat data with metrics from other paid marketing channels to see which ad channel performs best.

Troubleshooting

The Snapchat Marketing data source includes the following limitations:

  • Hourly breakdown is supported only for main advertising metrics, but not for conversion data.
  • Breakdown by demographic insights and by time is only available from January 1, 2020, onwards.
  • If you want to fetch demographic data for a time period before January 1, 2020, we’ve added lifetime versions of demographic dimensions, which ignore the date selection and return lifetime value for the selected metric.
  • Reach (unique impressions) and frequency metrics are supported only on daily granularity and by campaign. Weekly and monthly granularity is not supported.

If you see an error about metrics and dimensions not fetching together, or fields being incompatible, follow these steps to fix the issue.

If you see errors relating to quotas, or “daily query quotas”, read this guide.
