Snapchat Marketing report building guide

Use the Snapchat Marketing data source connector to pull your basic ad metrics from Snapchat and move the data to your destination of choice. Get detailed data on how much time viewers are spending with your ads and what the click and conversion ratio is.

For a full list of metrics and dimensions available in our Snapchat Marketing data source connector, take a look at our Snapchat Marketing documentation.

Once you’ve connected to Snapchat Marketing, you're ready to create your first query in Google Sheets, Looker Studio (formerly Data Studio), or Excel.

Try these queries

See the following use cases for examples on how to set up queries.

See cost per date

Take a look at how your cost has evolved over time.

The "Cost" metric shows the amount spent on an ad.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the time series chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Year to date.
  2. Select the Cost metric.
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.

See cost per campaign

Check how much your campaigns have cost during the last 28 days.

The "Cost" metric shows the amount spent on an ad.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last 28 days.
  2. Select the Cost metric.
  3. Select the Campaign name dimension to split the query results by campaign.

See the value of conversion purchases compared to impressions and cost

See how your ad spend is reflected in the conversions and conversion purchases. In this example, we take a look at the purchases, purchases value, impressions, and cost for the last week.

The "Purchases" metric shows the amount of purchases. The "Purchases value" metric shows the total value of purchases. The "Impressions" metric shows the amount of impressions for an ad.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the bar chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last week.
  2. Select the Purchases, Purchases value, Impressions, and Cost metrics.
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.

See cost, impressions, paid impressions, and swipes per ad squad

Take a look at how your ad squads are doing this month. In this example, we examine the cost, impressions (both organic and paid), and swipes for each ad squad.

The "Impressions" metric shows the amount of impressions for an ad. The "Paid impressions" metric shows the amount of paid impressions for the ad. The "Swipes" metric shows the swipe up count.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Set the date range to This month to date
  2. Select the Cost, Impressions, Paid impressions, and Swipes metrics.
  3. Select the Ad squad name dimension to split the query results by ad squad.

Set up scheduled refreshes for your reports

You can set up scheduled refreshes for your reports created in Google Sheets and Excel. Follow the instructions on how to create and manage scheduled reports in Google Sheets and how to set up scheduled report triggers in Excel.

In Looker Studio, you can have a copy of your report emailed to you and important stakeholders at regular intervals.

Troubleshooting

The Snapchat Marketing data source includes the following limitations:

  • Hourly breakdown is supported only for main advertising metrics, but not for conversion data.
  • Breakdown by demographic insights and by time is only available from January 1, 2020, onwards.
  • If you want to fetch demographic data for a time period before January 1, 2020, we’ve added lifetime versions of demographic dimensions, which ignore the date selection and return lifetime value for the selected metric.
  • Reach (unique impressions) and frequency metrics are supported only on daily granularity and by campaign. Weekly and monthly granularity isn't supported.
If you see an error about metrics and dimensions not fetching together, or fields being incompatible, follow these steps to fix the issue.
If you see errors relating to quotas, or “daily query quotas”, read this guide.
