Shopify report building guide

Use the Shopify data source to pull data to see which products are selling the most, allowing you to optimize your marketing spend. You can also easily follow your order and return ratio and create historical reports to see if there are seasonal changes.

For a full list of metrics and dimensions available in our Shopify data source connector, take a look at our Shopify documentation.

Once you've connected to Shopify, you're ready to create your first queries!

Try these queries

See the following use cases for examples on how to use the metrics and dimensions.

See order count and total sales

Take a look at how your order count and total sales have evolved over the last quarter.

The “Orders” metric shows the amount of orders, and the “Total sales” metric shows the total sales for the line.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the time series or combo chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Last quarter.
  2. Select the Orders and Total sales metrics.
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.

See order count for the year

Explore how your order count has developed over the year, and compare this year to the previous year.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the bar or time series chart type.

  1. Set the date range to Year to date.
  2. Select the Orders metric.
  3. Select the Year & Month dimension to split the query results by month.
  4. Set the Comparison date range to Same dates a year ago or Previous year.

See total sales with discounts, returns, gross sales, and order count

Get a wide view of how your sales are doing with total and gross sales, discounts, and returns.

The “Discounts” metric shows the total number of discounts applied to the order, and the “Returns” metric shows the total amount refunded for the order.

The “Gross sales” metric shows the total price for the line item without any discounts applied.

For best results in Looker Studio, use the table chart type.

  1. Set the date range to This month to date.
  2. Select the Discounts, Returns, Gross sales, Total sales, and Orders metrics.
  3. Select the Date dimension to split the query results by date.
