Shopify: Authentication and reauthentication guide

This guide will walk you through how to authenticate or reauthenticate Shopify with Google Sheets, Data Studio, and Microsoft Excel, as well as data warehouse destinations like Google Cloud Storage, BigQuery, and API.

Before you begin

To connect Supermetrics to Shopify, you need:

  • A Shopify store owner account or a Shopify staff account
Connect with a Shopify store owner account
  • Each Shopify store has only one store owner. You can check the store owner from the Shopify itself by navigating to Settings → Users and permissions
  • At the top of the page, you can find the store owner.

Here's an example of a store owner account:

Connect with a Shopify staff account
  • Shopify store owners can add staff to their Shopify store. Owners can give permissions to their staff in order to manage what the store’s staff can view, and what they can do in Shopify.

Store owners can follow these steps to create a staff account:

  1. Add new staff account
  2. Edit the permissions for the staff account

To complete the process:

  1. From the staff account settings page, go to the Permissions section.
  2. Navigate to Apps and Channels. Supermetrics should be listed there among other apps linked to the Shopify store.
  3. Check the box next to Supermetrics.

First-time users: Install app

  • If you're authenticating Shopify for the first time, you'll need to list the Shopify app. Please note that this step is only necessary the first time you authenticate Shopify, so you'll only have to do it once.
  • To install the app, click Install unlisted app during the setup process. See the example screenshot below.
  • Note that you can't authenticate Shopify through the Shopify app. To connect to Shopify, you will need to login through one of our products (Supermetrics for Google Sheets, Data Studio, Excel etc.). Follow the steps below to authenticate Shopify.
