Instagram connection guide

Use this guide to connect Instagram Insights and Instagram Public Data to Supermetrics.

Before you begin

To connect Instagram Public Data to Supermetrics, you need a Facebook user account linked to an Instagram account with the Manage Page role. Learn more in Instagram's documentation.


To connect Instagram Insights to Supermetrics, you need to make sure both your Instagram and Facebook accounts have a specific set of permissions.


Instagram permissions

Your Instagram account must be:

  • An Instagram Business account (sometimes called a "professional account"), or a Creator account that uses Facebook authentication and isn't restricted, age-limited, or private.
  • Linked to an active Facebook Page which has been claimed.

Visit Instagram's help center to learn how to change your account type.

Facebook permissions

Your Facebook account must:

  • Be a Facebook user account with View Page performance and Create ads permissions. Admin access — Manage page isn't required, but will work.
  • If it's using the new Pages experience, the account needs Full control access to the Facebook Page linked to the Instagram account.

If your team uses Supermetrics for Excel, you'll see different options for managing and sharing data source connections in that destination. Learn more.


Google Sheets Data StudioExcel

Make sure you've installed the Supermetrics add-on before you connect.

  1. Open a new Google Sheets file.
  2. Navigate to ExtensionsSupermetricsLaunch to open the Supermetrics sidebar.
  3. Click Create query.
  4. Under Data source, select Instagram Insights or Instagram Public Data.
  5. Click Start.
  6. Log in with a new Facebook account, or click Continue with Facebook to log in with the account you're currently logged in to.
  7. Choose the accounts and Pages you'd like to add to your reports, and click Next.
  8. For Instagram Public Data, navigate to Report configuration and select your query type.
